Coming Home to the Body

Yoga after Cancer Diagnosis

An exploration weaving mindfulness, restorative movement and meditation techniques to return to the body after a cancer diagnosis. After such news your world can change. Physically, mentally, emotionally.

Not only can there be a distrust and unsureness in the body, but treatment can radically change how we feel, look and interact with ourselves. Our bodies can become medicalised - no longer just our own, but things to be monitored, observed and treated.

These classes are for those looking to return home to their body after (or during) such a time. You may be looking to begin your yoga practise - yoga has been proven to help in a variety of ways with cancer, but it can be overwhelming to start something new, particularly at a stressful time.

If you are looking to start yoga in a safe, understanding and supported space, this course is for you. Or maybe you have practised yoga before, but are looking for ways to integrate the changes that have occurred through cancer treatment, and would like to explore ways to restore the nervous system and ease stress, as well as how to adapt your practice and build on ways to promote calm.

Perhaps you went through treatment some time ago, but are looking for ways to process the changes and emotions that occurred, and connect with those who have gone through the same.

This course is for all.

Sophie understands firsthand the stress, fear and anxiety that comes with cancer diagnosis and treatment. She was diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2019 and underwent chemotherapy and a stem cell transplant, followed by a year long recovery. She lent on her yoga and mindfulness practice during this time - and found this to be so supportive that the idea for 'Yoga after Cancer' was born. She embarked on 5+ years of learning, reading and researching so as to be able to help others going through cancer. Each week is centred around a theme, helping us explore topics and emotions. Yoga and somatic movement, meditation, journalling, and pranayama (breathwork) techniques will all be explored in a variety of ways in relation to the theme. Each session consists of 75 minutes structured practise, followed by an optional, relaxed discussion over tea for around 15-30 mins.

Sophie is a kind and compassionate teacher who takes time to connect with students at an individual level. Practising with Sophie has helped me overcome trauma caused by the impact of my daughter Erin's cancer journey - I leave classes feeling happy, calm, strong , revitalised and ready to deal with my day.
